Ibrahim Gedeon – Chief Technology Officer for TELUS
Bio: Ibrahim Gedeon is the Chief Technology Officer for TELUS, a leading national telecommunications company in Canada. He is responsible for technology strategy, service and network architecture, service delivery and operational support systems, as well as service and network convergence, enterprise applications and network infrastructure strategies and evolution. Under his leadership TELUS deployed the largest LTE cellular network to Canadians to meet the exponential data traffic growth, offering faster speeds to more than two-thirds of Canadians. Combined with 97% HSPA+ coverage, the TELUS wireless broadband network is one of the best in the world. In Q4 of 2012, TELUS successfully rolled out co-channel LTE small cells, bringing technology innovation to the next level.
Under Ibrahim s technology leadership, TELUS is recognized in the industry as a technology leader in the IPTV and nScreen space with their Optik TV service offering, through the delivery of Fixed Mobile Convergence and Broadband services roadmaps, the launch of TELUS Â next generation broadband access/GPON/Ethernet to the Home/VDSL2, the launch of TELUS Â Next Generation systems and processes/ policy/charging and controls, the first VoMPLS Class 4 service provider implementation, and by partnering with technology vendors to demonstrate the applications for the future from home automation to desktop and network integration.
Prior to TELUS, Ibrahim worked with NORTEL Networks as a Senior Vice President Wireless Engineering (2001-2003), Vice President Internet Brand Management (1999-2001), and Vice President/Director Data Network Engineering (1996-1999).
Ibrahim was recently the General Chair for the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Communications in Ottawa. Ibrahim is an IEEE SM and served on the board of IEEE Canada as the Chair of IEEE Ottawa Section (1994-1996), was the Chair of the IEEE Ottawa Communications Society Chapter (1996-2002), and since 2008 he has served as a Senate Member of the IEEE Ottawa Section. He also serves on the board of a number of industry associations, including the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance, the Washington, DC based Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), and the University of Southern California s Marshall School of Business based Institute for Communication Technology Management (CTM).
A native of Lebanon, he has a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the American University of Beirut and a Masters’ in Electronics Engineering from Carleton University. In 2010, he received a Honourary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia.
Yukyuks Comedian – Don Kelly
Ottawa comic Don Kelly has starred in numerous national comedy specials including CTV’s Comedy Now and CBC’s Comics along with numerous appearances on The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, The Debaters and Madly Off in All Directions. Don is also the host and star of the Gemini-nominated series Fish Out of Water on APTN. Don’s comedy ranges from sharp observations on everyday life to bizarre flights of fancy. He’s a comic for any audience and all occasions!
